Nursing Flashcards

Introduce vital signs, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and asepsis through illustrated vocabulary cards.

1 / 5

Connect the term to what it describes

This sample focuses on introductory vocabulary. Use the definitions as language practice alongside the material taught in your course.

Vital signs

A group of physiological measurements used to describe basic body functions. The term brings together familiar measures such as temperature, pulse, breathing rate, and blood pressure.

Pulse

The rhythmic pressure wave felt in an artery as the heart pumps blood. Connect the word to the heartbeat and circulation.

Respiration

In the context of this introductory set, respiration refers to breathing: the movement of air into and out of the lungs.

Blood pressure

The pressure of circulating blood against blood-vessel walls. The sample connects the term to the familiar measurement context.

Asepsis

The state of being free from disease-causing microorganisms. The term connects to practices intended to prevent contamination.

Keep related terms distinct

Explain each term in a complete sentence rather than memorizing an isolated label. Then describe how it connects to the topic being taught in your course.

Build vocabulary before adding more detail

Use a short, focused practice session to connect the answers to what you are learning.

  • Recall the term from a definition

Read the question and name the concept before revealing the answer. Restate the explanation using your own words.

  • Connect words within a topic

Group related vocabulary from a lecture or reading. Explain how the terms differ and how they are used together.

  • Create a course-specific set

Upload your teaching material or paste a terminology list. Specify the audience, topic, and depth so the cards fit the course you are studying.

Nursing study cards illustrate pulse, respiration, and asepsis as foundational vocabulary.

Keep the foundational vocabulary together

The ten-page PDF contains five illustrated question-and-answer pairs for introductory nursing terminology. Print it as a compact companion to your course notes.

Build a clear foundation for the course vocabulary

Lydia Fern

Nursing student

“I wanted a small set for revisiting the vocabulary from our introductory class. The cards separated pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and asepsis into focused questions. I used them as a starting point before returning to my course notes.”

Nabil Hart

Health sciences tutor

“I used the sample to ask learners what each term described. That kept the discussion focused on meaning and the connections between words. The printed cards worked well for a paired vocabulary activity.”

Sylvia Kent

Foundation course learner

“The first weeks of the course introduced a lot of terminology. Having a short illustrated set gave me a manageable way to begin a study session. I explained each answer in my own words before moving on.”

Tari Holloway

Nursing study group organizer

“We wanted a quick vocabulary warm-up before discussing the lecture material. Each person took a card and explained the term to the group. The answers helped us keep the language clear and consistent.”

Alec Rowan

Health education instructor

“The sample gave me a useful example of a focused terminology card. I created another set from our teaching material and adjusted the wording in PowerPoint. It was practical to have both a screen version and printable pages.”

Nora Ashford

Nursing student

“I used the vocabulary cards during short breaks between longer reading sessions. The visual examples helped me reconnect a term with what it described. I kept the PDF with the rest of my introductory study material.”
